When Winter Feels Endless (and How We Get Through It)
Share
Winter in Wisconsin has a way of testing us. The freezing temperatures, the gray skies, the way the cold seems to seep into everything—not just our hands, but our moods too. This time of year can feel especially heavy when spring still feels far away.
If you’re feeling over it, you’re not alone.
But winter also gives us permission to slow down in ways we don’t always allow ourselves to the rest of the year. When it’s too cold to be outside for long, we turn inward. We nest. We create. We rest. We find warmth where we can—soft blankets, warm drinks, familiar shows, creative projects, quiet routines.
This season isn’t about pushing through or pretending to love the cold. It’s about meeting ourselves where we are. Some days that looks like bundling up and embracing the crisp air. Other days it looks like staying inside, lighting a candle, and doing something small that brings comfort or joy.
And here’s the thing winter always reminds us of, whether we notice it or not: it doesn’t last forever. The sun will stay out a little longer. The snow will melt. Warmer days will come—every single year, without fail.
Until then, it’s okay to take this season one day at a time. To create indoors. To rest without guilt. To hold onto the quiet hope that spring is already on its way, even if it doesn’t feel like it yet.
